When we are asleep, we need less air. We live in air, but we cannot see it. We can only feel it when it is moving. Moving air is called wind. How can we make air move? Here is one way. Hold an open book in front of your face, close it quickly. What can you feel? What you feel is air.

Hi, welcome to Faith Radio Online-Sim* to Relax, I’m Faith. I realized a few years ago why we all need to climb a mountain every now and then. When we climb mountains, face challenges, hurdle1 obstacles and learn from difficult situations we remind ourselves that we have the strength, power and energy to overcome life"s challenges. At first even a little mountain may seem like a big insurmountable mountain. But when you step back and climb it you realize, "I can do this." You realize within you is a source of strength, power and energy that you didn"t know you had. After all, the mountain, no matter how big it is, is no match for your focused energy and desire to climb it. Mountains are meant to be climbed. Wounds are meant to be healed and problems are meant to become learning experiences. They all serve a purpose. They make us stronger mentally, emotionally and spiritually. So, here we are, in front of us is that mountain, don’t hesitate, just go ahead and climb it, climb that mountain.

  (1)第一步:找出各选项句子中心词:名词、代词和连接词,了解这句子的大概意思(要该选项中划出其中心词并简要写也其大意)。对于中心词的查找方法,除了直接查字典外,请参看前两类考题所述技巧,在此不再赘述。建议:如果有点英语基础,在做这一步之前最好快速游览一个全文,了解全文大概是讲什么的。然后,根据各选项句子的大概意思,初步设想一下它们最有可能的位置和彼此顺序(当然,这也可以不做);

  (2)第二步:按顺序了解某一个填充处前后段或前后句子的逻辑关系和大概内容意思。这也是类似找中心句子与中心词的方法,找出前后段最接近填充处的句子的中心词(名词、代词和连接词),或者找出填充处前后句子的中心词,了解其大概意思和相互间的"逻辑关系;

  (3)第三步:把选项句子中心词及其大意与填充处前后段或前后句子的逻辑关系及大意进行对照,运用下述的做题技巧,综合分析排除,确定最有可能的选项或直接确定答案;并把确定了的答案把它划去和把最有可能的选项(A、B、C…)写到填充处,无论能否确定答案,都要接着往下做下一个填空处,以如类推。因为这类题是6选5,基本上是一个萝卜一个筐,每个选项最多只能用一次,并且基本上都必须用上,所以,不能确定最后唯一答案时,基本上可以通过做其它的填充处,甚至到最后把所有的填充处综合起来推敲,也可以确定各填充处的答案,因此,不要急于求成,困死在某一个填充处上;

There is no same opinion among people as to the view of wealth. Some people may think that wealth is the most important and powerful thing in life, while some other people believe that there are many things that cannot be bought with wealth. As far as I am concerned, I agree with the latter opinion. There’s an old proverb, “Money can cure hunger, but it can’t cure happiness” which sim* means wealth can buy us some material things but cannot make us happy and free from sadness or worries.

In fact, happiness, true love, friendship, time, health and so on are the most valuable things in the world and can never ever be bought with money. Those who just try their best to make money can’t realize the true meaning of life and will be the slaves for money. They can’t enjoy happiness, for they have lost everything, time, relatives, love except money. Then, what can money do? No one will share the happy moment with them. So, I think, money is not at all powerful while happiness is more important. If we always have happiness, we’ll never give up the belief to life.

What do you know about the sea? Some people know about it, but others don"t. The sea looks beautiful on a fine sunny day, but when there"s a strong wind, it"s very rough. What else do you know about it?

Of course, the sea is very big. In the world, there is more sea than land. Do you know Hainan Island? It"s really very nice. We can see beaches, trees and the sea. We can swim and visit a lot of beautiful places.

When you swim in the sea, you feel that the water is salty.

At last, I tell you about the Dead Sea. Fish can"t live in it, because it"s dangerous. This sea is too salty.

The sea is nice, but sometimes it"s not good.

For the past severalyears, the Sunday newspaper supplement Paradehas featured a column called "Ask Marilyn." People are invited to query Marilynvos Savant, who at age 10 had tested at a mental level of someone about 23years old; that gave her an IQ of 228 - the highest score ever recorded. IQtests ask you to complete verbal and visual *ogies, to envision paper afterit has been folded and cut, and to deduce numerical sequences, among othersimilar tasks. So it is a bit confusing when vos Savant fields such queriesfrom the average Joe (whose IQ is 100) as, What"s the difference between loveand fondness? Or what is the nature of luck and coincidence? ①It"snot obvious how the capacity to visualize objects and to figure out numericalpatterns suits one to answer questions that have eluded some of the best poetsand philosophers.

Clearly, intelligenceencompasses more than a score on a test. Just what does it mean to be smart? How much of intelligence can be specified, and how much can we learn about itfrom neurology, genetics, com*r science and other fields?

The defining term ofintelligence in humans still seems to be the IQ score, even though IQ tests arenot given as often as they used to be. The test comes primarily in two forms:the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale and the Wechsler Intelligence Scales(both come in * and children"s version). Generally costing several hundreddollars, they are usually given only by psychologists, although variations ofthem populate bookstores and the World Wide Web. ②Superhigh scores like vos Savant"s are nolonger possible, because scoring is now based on a statistical populationdistribution among age peers, rather than sim* dividing the mental age by thechronological age and multi*ing by 100. Other standardized tests, such as the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) and the Graduate Record Exam(GRE), capture the main aspects of IQ tests.

Such standardized testsmay not assess all the important elements necessary to succeed in school and inlife, argues Robert J. Sternberg. In his article "How Intelligent IsIntelligence Testing?", ③Sternberg notes that traditionaltest best assess *ytical and verbal skills but fail to measure creativityand practical knowledge, components also critical to problem solving and lifesuccess. Moreover, IQ test do not necessarilypredict so well once populations or situations change. Research has found thatIQ predicted leadership skills when the tests were given under low-stressconditions, but under high-stress conditions, IQ was negatively correlated withleadership - that is, it predicted the opposite. Anyone who has toiled throughSAT will testify that test-taking skill also *, whether it"s knowing whento guess or what questions to skip.

  1. Which of the following may be required in anintelligent test?

  [A] Answeringphilosophical questions.

[B] Foldingor cutting paper into different shapes.

[C] Tellingthe difference between certain concepts.(D)

[D] Choosingwords or graphs similar to the given ones.

  2. What can be inferred about intelligence testingfrom Paragraph 3?

[A] People nolonger use IQ scores as an indicator of intelligence.

[B] Moreversions of IQ tests are now available on the Internet.

[C] The testcontents and formats for *s and children may be different.(C)

[D]Scientists have defined the important elements of human intelligence.

  3. People nowadays can no longer achieve IQ scoresas high as vos Savant"s because

[A] thescores are obtained through different computational procedures.

[B]creativity rather than *ytical skills is emphasized now.

[C] vosSavant"s case is an extreme one that will not repeat.(A)

[D] thedefining characteristic of IQ tests has changed.

  4. We can conclude from the last paragraph that

[A] testscores may not be reliable indicators of one"s ability.

[B] IQ scoresand SAT results are highly correlated.

  [C] testinginvolves a lot of guesswork.(A)

[D]traditional test are out of date.

  5. What is the author"s attitude towards IQ test?

  [A]Supportive.

  [B]Skeptical.

  [C]Impartial.(B)

  [D] Biased.

large handful of green beans, topped and tailed, cut in half on the diagonal

3 ripe tomatoes, cut into wedges

  handful of flat-leaf parsley, chopped

  juice of 1/2 lemon

sour cream or natural yoghurt to serve (optional)

  Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Heat around 3 tablespoons of oil in an ovenproof frying pan over medium heat. Add the onion, sweet potato and potato and pan-fry for 5–10 minutes, tossing occasionally, until lightly coloured.

  2. Stir in the garlic, paprika, 1 teaspoon of salt and generous black pepper, coating well. Transfer the pan to the oven and roast until the vegetables are tender (around 15 minutes).

  3. Meanwhile, bring a small saucepan of water to a boil. Add the beans and simmer for a few minutes, then drain.

  4. Put the hot beans into a large bowl along with the tomato and parsley. Add the hot roasted vegetables, lemon juice and another good splash of oil and toss to combine. Add extra salt and pepper to taste. Serve with dollops of sour cream or natural yoghurt if desired

Yummy World No.326 Sweet Potato Gnocchi with Sautéed Onions and T

Sweet Potato Gnocchi with Sautéed Onions and Thyme

  Serves 3–4

  For the gnocchi:

1 pound of sweet potato (approximately one large sweet potato)

1 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour (or all purpose, whichever you prefer)

  1/4 cup chickpea flour

  1/2 teaspoon salt

  1. Preheat the oven to 350oF. Bake the sweet potato for 30–45 minutes or until well cooked and soft all the way through. Peel and discard the sweet potato skin (or sprinkle it with a pinch of salt and much on it for a snack!). You can do this as much as a day ahead of time. Let the potato cool completely.

  2. Place the sweet potato in a medium bowl and crush it with a fork until well mashed. Add the flours and salt. Knead the dough well, adding flour as necessary to allow for easy handling. Avoid adding more flour than necessary to keep the gnocchi from getting tough.

  3. When you can easily handle the dough, separate it into four segments and roll each segment on a floured surface into long skinny ropes. Each roll should be approximately 3/4 of an inch in diameter. With a fork, cut each roll into 1/2 inch gnocchi segments. If you’d like to make the traditional grooves in your gnocchi, press each piece of pasta lightly with the fork. You can store these in an airtight container in the fridge for 2–3 days.

  4. When you’re ready to cook your gnocchi, boil water just as you would normally for pasta. When the water is boiling, add a pinch of salt and the gnocchi. Keep the gnocchi simmering and stir them periodically to avoid sticking. When they float to the surface of the water, let them cook for another 5–10 minutes to taste. Strain the gnocchi from the water.

  For the sauce:

  1 whole red onion

  3 tablespoons lemon juice

  2–3 tablespoons fresh thyme

  olive oil for sautéing

  1. Cut your onion into quarter-inch slices.

  2. Sauté in olive oil on low for 15 to 20 minutes until soft.

  3. Add lemon juice and thyme and continue cooking for approximately 10 minutes.

  4. Mix well with the gnocchi (I recommend turning off the stove and putting the cooked and drained gnocchi into the pan with the sauce to facilitate easy mixing).

  5. Serve with a nice glass of wine and enjoy!

A man and his girlfriend were married. It was a large celebration.

All of their friends and family came to see the lovely ceremony and to partake(分享,参与) of the festivities and celebrations. All had a wonderful time. The bride was gorgeous in her white wedding gown and the groom was very dashing in his black tuxedo. Everyone could tell that the love they had for each other was true.

A few months later, the wife came to the husband with a proposal, "I read in a magazine, a while ago, about how we can strengthen our marriage," she offered. "Each of us will write a list of the things that we find a bit annoying with the other person. Then, we can talk about how we can fix them together and make our lives happier together."

The husband agreed. So each of them went to a separate room in the house and thought of the things that annoyed them about the other. They thought about this question for the rest of the day and wrote down what they came up with. The next morning, at the breakfast table, they decided that they would go over their lists.

"I"ll start," offered the wife. She took out her list. It had many items on it, enough to fill three pages. In fact, as she started reading the list of the little annoyances, she noticed that tears were starting to appear in her husband"s eyes.

"What"s wrong?" she asked. "Nothing," the husband replied, "keep reading your list."

The wife continued to read until she had read all three pages to her husband. She neatly placed her list on the table and folded her hands over the top of it.

"Now, you read your list and then we"ll talk about the things on both of our lists," she said happily.

Quietly the husband stated, "I don"t have anything on my list. I think that you are perfect the way that you are. I don"t want you to change anything for me. You are lovely and wonderful and I wouldn"t want to try and change anything about you." The wife, touched by his honesty and the depth of his love for her and his acceptance of her, turned her head and wept.

In life, there are enough times when we are disappointed, depressed and annoyed. We don"t really have to go looking for them. We have a wonderful world that is full of beauty, light and promise. Why waste time in this world looking for the bad, disappointing or annoying when we can look around us, and see the wondrous(奇妙的) things before us?

Then one day, the Han Dynasty dpatched an envoy to Yelang, and en route they encountered the neighboring kingdom DianGuo, and the King of Dian asked the emsary: “If you compared the Han Dynasty and my Kingdom, which one would be bigger?” The emsary ltened in astonhment, as he’d never have thought th small a country thought it could compare itself to the Han Dynasty. But he really never could have suspected that when he got to Yelang, the prideful and ignorant king who didn’t know that the kingdom he ruled was about the size of one Han county, would ask with an exaggerated opinion of h own worth, “Which  bigger: the Han Dynasty or my country?”
